To the End of the World

A ballade.

Feel the rhythm of the beat of the world—
See the soft hand that drags along the sea—
In the boat, we had watched our fingers curled
Together, sweetly squeezing, they, and we,
Whisp’ring promises of infinity.
Alone, forever, on the sifting boat,
We had avowed love and fidelity.
Forever as one, to the stars we float.

Sweeping across the stars, quickly we hurled
Through the currents of foamy-white, briny-
Blue-green sea. We had watched the water swirled
Around our hands and the conceived eddy
That multiplied as kisses rained softly
As you laid me down on your old brown coat.
Simple, complex passions we share will be
Forever as one, to the stars we float.

In the age-old dance, your body unfurled
Itself to show your unearthly beauty
To only me, and together we twirled
Away. The stars quietly watched us flee,
Contemplating—silently, knowingly—
Our desperate need—want—yen— to emote.
For solitude is to mean we are free;
Forever as one, to the stars we float.

Later, we watched the colors dance with glee
Across water. Out our mouths flew a note—
An insensate song. And we then would see—
Forever as one, to the stars we float.
